"A modern leisure centre dedicated to the world of American bowling: this is a perfect place for our boys’ expedition. We put our special shoes on, form teams and the competition begins. I’m a beginner so no strike for me but I don’t do too badly for a novice: six down! As we take turns, the rest of us sit at tables near the lanes and enjoy a drink, watching the others. It’s good- humoured fun but there’s an obvious sense of competition, even though no one will admit it. In the end, the losers propose a rematch, but snooker this time!"
