Northern Vaud - Jura (route No. 22)
"This is the sort of route that I like: it starts with a little climb on leaving Lausanne to get you going, gently undulating countryside in the Gros-de-Vaud to get your legs moving, lakeside country between Yverdon-les-Bains and Neuchâtel to delight the eyes, then a more serious and sweaty stretch to the summit of the Vue-des-Alps section (1'283m), and finally a refreshing downhill run to the watchmaking capital of La Chaux-de-Fonds which has just been designated as a UNESCO heritage site."
The full route comprises 3 sections between Lausanne and La Chaux-de-Fonds
Section 2: Yverdon-les-Bains - Neuchâtel
Distance: 35 km (22 miles)
Gradient: 440 m
Section 3: Neuchâtel - La Chaux-de-Fonds
Distance: 25 km (16 miles)
Gradient: 780 m
Section 2: technically easy, physically moderate
Section 3: technically moderate, physically difficult
Good to know
- Attention: the main roads between Concise and La Raisse, and Malvilliers and La Motte (Vue des Alps pass) carry very heavy traffic, as does the access road to La Chaux-de-Fonds.
- Cycle hire: Rent a bike
