"Today I leave Biel to discover part of the Swiss Midlands (Mittelland) Route. After following the southern shore of Lake Biel, I cross some pretty villages and a vast stretch of open country where several farmers are busy at work in the fields. I've already covered 60 km by the time I reach the enchanting town of Estavayer with its narrow alleyways, lots of fountains and a rampart running all the way round the place. The nearby beaches tempt me to take a dip. Shortly before Yverdon-les-Bains, in a forest clearing, I discover the menhirs of Clendy which date back an impressive 5000 years. At the end of this varied day, I reach Yverdon-les-Bains... and return by train!"
